Sindh Local Government Minister, Saeed Ghani, hassaid the municipal agencies in Karachi will soon complete the drainageoperation in Karachi to clear its roads and streets from accumulatedrainwater.
The Local Government Minister stated this on Saturday while talking tothe concerned elected local government representatives and officials ashe visited the Liberty Chowk area on Tariq Road to inspect the work torepair a 24-inch diameter sewerage line that collapsed during rains andlater visited different areas of the District East including SafooraTown to inspect the drainage operation.
Ghani said during the visits that speedy drainage of the accumulatedrainwater from the affected areas of Karachi was the topmost priority ofthe Sindh government. He said the staffers of Karachi MetropolitanCorporation, towns, and union committees were fully engaged in extendingemergency relief to the people after heavy rains. Sindh Local Government Minister, Saeed Ghani said the work wouldimmediately start to repair the damaged roads and streets after themonsoon rains came to an end.During his visit to Tariq Road, the official of the Karachi Water &Sewerage Corporation, Ejaz Ahmed, told the Local Government Ministersaid the 24-inch sewerage line beneath Tariq Road had caved in amidheavy rains the previous day.
Sindh Local Government Minister, Saeed Ghani said the repair work had beenimmediately started and it would be completed later in the night.Ghani asked the officials concerned to ensure that the sewage disposalfunction would immediately resume after the completion of the repairwork. The Local Government Minister said the drainage work had been completedin most of the areas in Karachi. He said the staffers of the municipaland civic agencies had been constantly working to clear the side streetsand roads that were still inundated with rainwater.He conceded that road infrastructure had been damaged due to rains inthe city but the repair work would immediately begin once the monsoonseason was over. He said that ditches caused on the roads and streetsdue to accumulated rainwater were not a new phenomenon.
