The federal government has directed strict disciplinary action against the police officials found illegally entering the premises of the North Korean embassy in the vicinity of the Shalimar Police Station.

A spokesperson of the Islamabad Police on Thursday tendered an apology and clarified the raiding team was not aware of the fact that it was the North Korean embassy’s building.

The raiding team had entered the building on the information of heavy quantities of liquor inside the building, the spokesperson told the media adding there was no sign or mark on the backyard gate that could tell it was the foreign mission’s building. The police he admitted entered from the backyard gate and without following the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

The embassy of North Korea a day earlier, had lodged a protest with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Islamabad over a raid at its premises earlier this week, saying the incident was a violation of the Vienna Convention. In a letter it wrote to the police chief the embassy of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea said seven police personnel from the federal capital’s F-10 police station, including a woman, made an “unlawful entry” into its premises on Monday (March 7).
