A delegation of 12 leading Chinese companies, accompanied by Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Sindh on Investment and Public-Private Partnership, visited the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Wednesday. This visit underscored growing Chinese interest in investing across various sectors in Sindh, including cargo, electric vehicles, pharmaceuticals, fertilizers, solar and wind energy, agriculture, and food and beverages.
A key highlight of the discussions was the proposal to establish a $1 billion medical city within the Dhabeji SEZ. The delegation also expressed interest in setting up factories for solar panels, inverters, and batteries, as well as a fertilizer plant utilizing coal as an energy source in collaboration with local partners.
During the visit, Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar reaffirmed the strategic importance of the Dhabeji SEZ, labeling it a priority project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). “This zone is a prominent symbol of the enduring and proud friendship between China and Pakistan,” he said. Naveed Qamar also highlighted the zone’s prime location, with easy access to ports, roads, and rail networks, making it pivotal for industrial growth, technology transfer, and job creation. Secretary Investment Sindh, Raja Khurram Shahzad, provided a detailed briefing on the zone’s infrastructure, facilities, and potential for investment.
An introductory video was also presented, showcasing the SEZ’s prospects. Key officials, including CEO Sindh Economic Zone Management Company Abdul Azim Aqili and CEO Global Ventures Idrees Gigi, were present to engage with the delegation. At the end of the meeting, commemorative shields were presented to the visiting Chinese representatives.
This visit and the subsequent discussions are expected to solidify the Dhabeji SEZ’s position as a hub of international investment and collaboration in Sindh.
