The Karachi Police have apprehended two suspects in the kidnapping and murder of a 12-year-old boy, Muhammad Ubaid alias Ahsan, from Orangi Town’s MadinaColony.According to police, Ahsan was abducted on May 8th. His father, Muhammad Ishtiaq, registered a complaint with the Mominabad police station (FIR Accused No. 24/256 of Section 364A). The next day, the family received a ransom demand of Rs. 15 lakh (approximately $8,800 USD) from the kidnappers.
The case was subsequently transferred to the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC).
Working on technical leads, a special AVCC team, along with the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), launched a joint operation in Orangi Town, resulting in the arrest of Furqan and Farhan within 12 hours.A critical detail emerged during the investigation: Furqan, the main suspect, is the brother-in-law of the deceased child.
Police believe Ahsan recognized Furqan, leading to the tragic outcome.According to SSP AVCC ZafarSiddiquiChhanga, “The arrested accused killed the child only after abducting him because the kidnapped child knew his brother-in-law.”Authorities believe the ransom demand may have been a ploy made after the murder.”The arrested accused had demanded ransom from the parents of the kidnapped child after killing the child,” Chhanga stated.
“The police could not get enough time to take any action for recovery.”The body of the young victim was recovered from the Khairabad area of Manghopir based on information provided by the arrested suspects. The local police and crime scene unit were called to the scene. While the motive remains under investigation, authorities believe financial gain may have played a role.
“The mother of the slain abducted child had returned from Dubai a month ago and the mother of the slain abducted child had 15 to 20 lakh rupees [approximately $8,800 – $11,700 USD] and the main accused Furqan demanded ransom of 15 lakhs from the family of the abducted child,” Chhangareported. The AVCC intends to conduct a thorough investigation, including examining the suspects’ criminal history, and apprehend anyone else involved in the crime.
