LAHORE – The British High Commissioner, Jane Marriott CMG OBE, has observed firsthand the positive impact of UK partnerships with Pakistan in the shift towards green energy.

The Atlas Solar Farm, powered by British International Investment, a UK government development finance institution, supplies 100 MW of clean and affordable energy to over 100,000 residential consumers. This helps avoid 106,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

Marriott expressed her confidence in Pakistan, stating that the country holds the potential to become a global leader in solar energy and to power its entire population. The UK is already investing in this innovative technology, playing a crucial role in creating a healthier, more sustainable future.

During her visit to South Punjab, the High Commissioner met with various development partners, including Maries Stopes Society, Captain (Rt) Saqib Zafar, Additional Chief Secretary South Punjab, and Eng. Amir Khattak, Commissioner Multan. The UK has supported the Government of Punjab in reducing its unsustainable debt by 469 billion rupees by streamlining wheat operations and reducing liabilities by 2.7 trillion rupees through pension reform.

She also visited the MG Apparel manufacturing plant, a subsidiary of Mahmood Textiles Limited, one of Pakistan’s most prominent supporters and leading clothing exporters to the UK.
