THE rankings
The global ranking is based on five broad performance areas rather than a single indicator. Research Quality carries the largest share at 30%, covering citation impact, research strength, research excellence and research influence.
Teaching accounts for 29.5% and incorporates measures including teaching reputation, student-to-staff ratios, doctoral-to-bachelor’s degree ratios, doctorates awarded per academic staff member and institutional income. Research Environment contributes 29%, with indicators covering research reputation, research income and research productivity.
International Outlook component carries a 7.5% weight and looks at factors including international students, international staff and international research collaboration. The final 4% comes from the Industry category, which includes indicators related to industry income and patents.
With universities from Pakistan represented across multiple global bands, and many others included as Reporters, THE 2027 rankings provide a broad picture of the country’s presence in the international higher-education landscape, giving prospective students another benchmark when researching universities at home and abroad.
