The Chargé d’Affaires of Afghanistan’s Permanent Mission to the UN, Naseer Ahmad Faiq, said that he will not be speaking at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 77).

He stated in a series of tweets on Saturday night, September 24 that the representatives of Afghanistan and Myanmar will not be speaking at the General Assembly this year “in accordance with the agreement that was established in the General Assembly last year.”

The Afghan representative, however, confirmed that he is expected to partake and speak at the UN Security Council meeting on September 27 in reference to the situation in Afghanistan.

According to Faiq, the coming UN Security Council meeting, which will be held on Tuesday, September 27, will be focused on the current situation in Afghanistan.
