ISLAMABAD – Pakistani government unveiled details of ambitious Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for fiscal year 2025–26, ahead of crucial meeting of National Economic Council (NEC) slated for today.
The proposed plan outlines multi-trillion-rupee allocations across key sectors, showing government’s focus on infrastructure, energy, education, technology, and regional development. The final PSDP allocations will be confirmed after approval from the NEC later today.
Ministry of Water Resources is expected to receive major chunk of Rs147 billion. Major water and energy projects include Rs20 billion for the Dasu Hydropower Project, Rs35 billion each for the Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams, Rs8.2 billion for Karachi’s Bulk Water Supply Scheme, and Rs9.4 billion for the K-IV water project.

For technology and IT, the Ministry of Information Technology is allocated Rs13.5 billion, which includes Rs4 billion for an IT Park in Karachi and Rs5 billion for a similar facility in Islamabad.

The energy sector is set to receive Rs104 billion, which comprises Rs16 billion each for NTDC upgrades and the Dasu Transmission Line, and Rs5 billion for a 220kV line connecting Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur.
Lastly, Pakistan Railways has been allocated Rs24 billion, with Rs9.3 billion proposed for the Thar Coal Rail Link and Rs7 billion for the procurement of modern cargo wagons and coaches.
