Pakistan Navy promoted four senior Commodores to the rank of Rear Admiral to strengthen its leadership, recognizing decades of distinguished operational, command, and strategic service.
Commodore Tasawar Iqbal, Commodore Muhammad Umair, Commodore Shahid Wasif, and Commodore Rao Ahmed Imran Anwar have all been promoted to rank of Rear Admiral for their exceptional professional competence, leadership, and valuable contributions to Pakistan’s maritime security and national defence.
Rear Admiral Tasawar Iqbal was commissioned into the Pakistan Navy’s Operations Branch in 1995. A graduate of Pakistan Navy War College Lahore and the National Defence University Islamabad, he also completed the Inter Services Staff Course in France.
During his distinguished career, he has served as Commanding Officer of PNS Alamgir, Commander of the 25th Destroyer Squadron, Commandant of the Pakistan Naval Academy, and Senior Pakistan Navy Officer in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He is currently serving as Commander West and has been awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military) for his outstanding services.
Commissioned in 1996 in the Operations Branch, Rear Admiral Muhammad Umair graduated from Pakistan Navy War College Lahore and the National Defence University Islamabad. He also completed the Communication Command Course in China and the Naval Staff College Course in the United States.
His command appointments include PNS Quwwat, PNS Tariq, PNS Tabuk, and Commander of the 14th Destroyer Squadron. He also served as Deputy Director Naval Operational Plans (Strategy) at Naval Headquarters. He is currently the Commandant of the Pakistan Naval Academy, Karachi, and is a recipient of the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military).
Rear Admiral Shahid Wasif joined the Pakistan Navy in 1996 through the Operations Branch. He is a graduate of Pakistan Navy War College and the National Defence University and has completed the Advanced Command and Staff Course in the United Kingdom. He also holds a Master’s degree in Defence Studies from King’s College London and another Master’s degree in International Relations from Deakin University, Australia, in addition to completing the Defence and Strategic Studies Course in Australia.
Throughout his career, he has served as Commanding Officer of PNS Saif, Deputy Director Naval Operational Plans (Strategy), Assistant Naval Secretary (Operations), Director Human Resources, and Principal Secretary to the Chief of the Naval Staff at Naval Headquarters. He is currently commanding the 25th Destroyer Squadron and has been decorated with the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military).
Rear Admiral Rao Ahmed Imran Anwar was commissioned in the Operations Branch in 1996. He graduated from Pakistan Navy War College and the National Defence University and later completed the Advanced Command and Staff Course in the United Kingdom, earning a Master’s degree in Defence Studies from King’s College London.
His key appointments include Commanding Officer of PNS Zarrar, PNS Shamsheer, PNS Zulfiqar, Commander of the 10th Patrol Craft Squadron, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations), Pakistan’s Naval Adviser in New Delhi, and Deputy Commandant of Pakistan Navy War College Lahore. He is currently serving as Naval Secretary at Naval Headquarters, Islamabad. For his service, Imran Anwar has been awarded both the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military) and the Tamgha-e-Basalat.
