The city administration has responded to rising complaints about the increasing prices of eggs and chicken. In a meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, it was decided that deputy commissioners will be tasked with ensuring the enforcement of official prices for essential commodities, including eggs and chicken. Strict action will be taken against shopkeepers found violating the government-fixed prices. The commissioner emphasized the need for deputy commissioners to intensify their campaigns against price violations.

The meeting also addressed the root causes behind the soaring prices of eggs and chicken, with a decision to have the deputy commissioner of the central district, in collaboration with the Bureau of Supply and other relevant stakeholders, propose measures to address the issue.

Additionally, the meeting discussed the enforcement of prices for other essential goods like lentils, roti, and naan. All assistant commissioners were instructed to take special efforts to ensure strict adherence to government-set prices and to take punitive action against those violating these prices.

The issue of traffic problems linked to bachat bazaars, which have been causing disruptions, was also a significant topic. Deputy commissioners briefed the meeting on how bachat bazaars have been violating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), leading to traffic congestion and inconvenience for citizens. The meeting decided that action will be taken against bachat bazaars that are violating traffic regulations or causing issues due to non-compliance with SOPs.

Deputy commissioners were instructed to ensure these bazaars follow the rules, with the possibility of canceling permits for those operating without authorization or breaching required SOPs. Deputy Commissioner East, Abrar Jaffar, reported that the administrations of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Time Square and Allah Din bachat bazaars had been issued warnings regarding the traffic chaos caused by their operations.

The bazaar management assured the district administration that improvements would be made to resolve the traffic issues and ensure adherence to SOPs. Similarly, Deputy Commissioner Korangi, Asif Korai, reported that notices had been issued to bachat bazaars violating SOPs and operating without the necessary authority in Korangi. He added that a report on unauthorized bazaars or those violating SOPs would be submitted to the commissioner for further action.

In terms of actions against price violations, Assistant Commissioner Hazeem Bangwar presented a report detailing ongoing actions against shopkeepers. The deputy commissioners provided updates on actions taken in their respective districts from December 30 to January 5.
