Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah reaffirmed the Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) dedication to democracy, public service, and its rich legacy during the party’s Foundation Day celebrations. Addressing party workers and leaders, Shah paid homage to the PPP’s achievements and its unwavering connection with the people of Pakistan. Murad Ali Shah praised the PPP’s founding leader, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, for establishing the party on November 30, 1967.
He lauded Bhutto’s enduring slogan, “Roti, Kapra aur Makaan” (Bread, Clothing, and Shelter), as a transformative vision for the country. Highlighting Bhutto’s fight against dictatorships and his role in making Pakistan a nuclear power, Shah remarked, “Shaheed Bhutto empowered the people through the strength of their vote.”
He criticized the judicial ruling that led to Bhutto’s execution, calling it a “judicial murder.” Shah also welcomed the recent recognition by the Supreme Court acknowledging the injustice of the verdict.
The Chief Minister commended the resilience of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto in taking the reins of the PPP after her father’s martyrdom. Recalling her struggle against Zia-ul-Haq’s dictatorship and her historic tenure as Pakistan’s first female Prime Minister, Shah noted,
“The public stood by Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, and with their support, she brought significant change to the country.” Shah also paid homage to Benazir Bhutto’s ultimate sacrifice, lamenting her assassination in 2007. “Her leadership and vision remain unmatched in Pakistan’s history,” he said. Murad Ali Shah highlighted development efforts in Jamshoro, a PPP stronghold, crediting the party’s leadership for progress in the region. “Jamshoro has always stood by the PPP, and we will honor this tradition by continuing to serve the people,” he stated.
He praised President Asif Ali Zardari’s leadership, particularly the introduction of the 18th Amendment, which restored provincial autonomy and safeguarded the rights of provinces.
He also acknowledged Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for uniting the party and carrying forward its democratic mission. In his concluding remarks, Shah vowed to uphold the PPP’s legacy under Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s guidance. “The PPP has always been the voice of the people, and we remain committed to serving Sindh and the nation with the same spirit,” he affirmed.
The event was attended by prominent leaders, including MNA Malik Asad Sikandar, MPAs Sikandar Shoro, Malik Sikandar, Gianchand, and Mohan Lala. Party workers and supporters gathered to celebrate the PPP’s historic contributions to Pakistan’s political landscape.
