PayPal, Stripe to start Pakistan operations soon; Check latest update here

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan is all set to get online payment giants PayPal, and Stripe in what is said to be a boost for freelancers and the IT industry.

Pakistani consumers are looking desperately to get their hands on PayPal as with the start of the new services, millions will be able to send, receive, and hold funds in scores of currencies.

As all eyes are on start of PayPal, interim Caretaker Minister Dr Umar Saif said Pakistani will hear good news about PayPal and stripe payment gateways in the near future.

Saif, the tech pioneer, said the government is in talks with PayPal, Stripe and WISE and the country’s case was presented to them, hoping that people would hear good news within six weeks.

He said providing these services to freelancer community, saying revolutionary initiatives undertaken by the ministry in the last two months will give major boost to IT and telecom sectors.

In previous meetings, IT minister expressed his resolve to bring the online services to Pakistan to facilitate the freelancers. He also presented his plan to caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar about revamping the technology sector. The premier has approved and appreciated a plan regarding the launch of PayPal and Stripe in Pakistan.

The plan also includes enhancing IT exports by institutionalising dollar retention accounts, IT corporate debit cards to enable easy flow of money in and out of retention accounts, streamlining tax issues, and training 2 lac T professionals to add multi billions to IT exporters.

“Bring PayPal and Stripe to Pakistan and establish co-working spaces for 500,000 freelancers to increase their potential to additional $3 Biliion per year,” Saif had said in a social media post after meeting with PM Kakar.

The plan also includes the launch Starlink in Pakistan to improve connectivity throughout the country.
