JSMU awards degrees to over 630 graduates

The Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) held its 4th convocation at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre Ground on Sunday to award degrees to over 630 successful graduates.

Forty medals were awarded to the best graduates and position holders of batch 2020 and 2021, out of which female students secured 24 medals. Saif Aslam Khan, a BDS student, received four medals for his exceptional performance.

After distributing the medals to the position holders, Kamran Khan Tessori, the chief guest of the Convocation, addressed the students and asked them to respect and take good care of their parents and teachers who made them able to get this degree. “There is a lot of talent in Pakistan and Pakistani youth are making the country proud all over the world”, he added. Governor Sindh asked young people to consider Pakistan as their home and decorate it like their drawing room.

Minister Universities and Boards Ismail Rahu awarded degrees to graduates. In his speech, he asked the graduates to be true to their motherland and serve humanity with passion. He stressed on the importance Sindh Government attached to the education sector and pledged his support for educational projects in the province.

Speaking at the convocation, JSMU Vice Chancellor Prof Amjad Siraj Memon shed light on the milestones the university has achieved in recent years and shared that the JSMU is at the forefront of public universities having been declared the best among the medical universities of Sindh in the UK’s Times Higher Education Impact Ranking for 2022.

“JSMU is working on sustainable strategies and programmes to provide modern and relevant health education in the province of Sindh,” the Vice Chancellor said. He also shared his vision for the establishment of Jinnah Sindh Medical City and further briefed about the various projects that JSMU is currently working on, including the establishment of a boys’ medical college, the School of Nursing, the acquisition of SESSI’s Valika hospital in Landhi, the establishment of the College of Physical Therapy, and collaboration with Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC). He highlighted the University’s need for space for expansion of the current facilities including the hostels. He stressed the need for betterlodgings for foreign students that come to JSMU.
