Rains claim 23 lives in two provinces
Three main highways connecting Baluchistan to the rest of Pakistan have been closed after suffering damage during the recent floods and heavy rainfall.
National Highway 50 (DI Khan-Kuchlak, Quetta) was blocked due to landslides in Dhana Sar Town in Balochistan. Moreover, massive flooding in Musa Khail, district Balochistan, wiped out the roads causing suspension of traffic.
Whereas, the road network connecting Balochistan with KP was blocked due to soil and land erosion in the mountains of Drazanda, Sherani district.
The National Highway (N-25), also known as the RCD Highway that connects Karachi to Quetta, continued to remain closed after suffering damage during rains and floods.
On the other hand, five more people have been reported dead amid heavy rains and floods in Balochistan, taking the overall tally to 207, according to the statement issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority.
Meanwhile, as many as 23 people died, scores were injured, hundreds were displaced and traffic remained suspended across interprovincial highways following torrential rains striking Sindh with flash flooding in DG Khan, Balochistan’s Lasbela district and adjoining areas on Thursday.
The heavy rains in most parts of Sindh including Thatta, Dadu, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Hyderabad paralysed the communication system.
In a provincial breakup of the rising death toll, as many as 14 people died as a result of rain-related accidents in Khairpur and Qambher, six persons including four children died in different parts of DG Khan and three died as a result of flash-flooding in Lasbela district and adjoining areas.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people were left stranded without tents under the open sky by the torrential rains following the large-scale destruction of their mud houses. The constant downpour prevented the respective city administrations to resume their relief and rehabilitation service.
