Local traders have announced to observe complete shutdown in Sonamarg area of Gandarbal district, today, to protest anti-trade policies of the Modi-led Indian government in illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Talking to the media persons, President Traders Union Sonamarg Sajad Ahmad said that they had been suffering a lot for the past two years because of COVID and the Modi regime is deliberately taking some decisions to further dent the already fragile economy of the territory.

Citing an example, he said the administration had promised that whenever yatris would come to Sonamarg they would pass through the main market to give a boost to the economic activity in the area.

”However, the administration is not allowing the pilgrims to enter through the main market and their vehicles are allowed to use bypass because of which our business has been badly hit,” one of the traders said.

He said that they have decided to observe a complete shutdown tomorrow to protest against the Modi government’s prejudiced attitude against Kashmiri traders.—KMS
