The University of Okara’s Department of Sociology on Thursday organized a seminar to sensitize the female faculty members and students on the prevention and cure of breast cancer.

Incharge Sociology Department, Dr. Sumeera Tul Hassan delivered a special presentation on breast self-examination and healthy life style to avert the deadly disease.

The other keynote speakers of the event were Dr Iqra Kanwal, Deputy Medical Superintendent, District Headquarters Hospital Okara, and Dr Babra Dogar, senior gynecologist from Okara.

Talking to the media about the objectives of the event, Dr Sumeera told, “Since October is commemorated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month worldwide, we have organized this session to impart important information to our females regarding various preventive measures as most of the women in our society fall prey to this disease due to lack of awareness.”

Dr Iqra and Dr Babra discussed various medical and socio-cultural aspects of breast cancer. They were of the view that most women in the Pakistani society were reluctant to go for clinical examination and treatment to the fact that the society had attached breast cancer with female sexuality.

Meanwhile, Dr Farooq Ahmed, In-Charge Department of Tourism & Hospitality Management, organized a workshop on Marketing Communication for the students.

The Director Student Affairs, Dr Shoaib Saleem, also organized a debate competition followed by a walk and an exhibition to show solidarity with the Kashmiris.—INP
