Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) South Waziristan Muhammad Salim Marwat has said that all out efforts were being made for the conservation of Pinus gerardiana.
Talking to media persons Wednesday, Salim Marwat noted that the bark beetles affected trees of Pinus gerardiana were being sprayed throughout the forests of the tribal district South Waziristan to preserve the natural ecosystem.
He said that the Pinus gerardiana trees were spread out on the 2,18,000 acres area in the erstwhile tribal agency wherein some complaints were received about the harms to the trees due to fruit fly attacks, he noted.
He maintained that in prompt response to the reported damages of Pinus gerardiana, the forest department formed research teams to take samples of the affected trees.
Salim Marwat further mentioned that the research laboratory results of the collected sample unveiled that the Pinus gerardiana trees were attacked and affected by bark beetle insects.
The forest department primo informed that following the finding of research, the spray of the forest against the detected disease was started which had covered 40% of the forest till the date.
He maintained that the largely affected trees were also injected for the earliest recovery and growth.
