The Sindh government on Monday announced high-level inquiry into the arrest of PML-N leader Captain (retd) Safdar while condemning his arrest by Karachi Police. Sindh Information Minister Nasir Hussain Shah in a statement alleged that, “this game was played with the consent of the federal government. “The Government of Sindh was not informed before this action,” the minister further said. “The incident that took place at the mausoleum of Quaid should not have happened,” Nasir Hussain Shah said. PTI leaders complained to the police for registering a case, but the police dismissed the applications declaring the demand unlawful, provincial minister said. Later, a man complained that Captain (retd) Safdar has issued him threats after which police filed a FIR and launched investigation of the matter, Nasir Shah said. The minister condemned the arrest while violating sanctity of privacy. “The Government of Sindh has taken stern notice of the arrest and will launch a high-level inquiry of the incident,” information minister added. Meanwhile, reacting to Captain Safdar’s arrest from a Karachi hotel, Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani has said the provincial government has no role in his arrest. Responding to PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz’s tweet in which she said police barged in her hotel room and arrested her husband, Ghani said: “Whatever Capt Safdar did at Mazar-e-Quaid was uncalled for but the way the police arrested him is condemnable.” “Capt Safdar was not arrested on the Sindh government’s instructions,” he clarified, adding the police’s move is aimed at causing a rift among opposition parties and part of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) conpiracy that they will foil. Safdar was arrested by the police from a Karachi hotel where he along with his wife Maryam was staying for allegedly violating the sanctity of the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammed Ali Jinnah. The case was registered against PML-N leaders, including party vice president Maryam Nawaz, Safdar and 200 others at the Brigade Police Station for sloganeering at the Quaid’s mausoleum.
