On the orders of the District Magistrate, the price control team of the Islamabad Capital Territory Authority (ICTA) conducted raids in different markets of the federal capital and arrested 25 shopkeepers for overpricing. The price control magistrates also imposed a fine of Rs125,000 on the shopkeepers for deviating from the Deputy Commissioner’s rate list and for selling items of daily use at higher rates.
In the three Ramazan Bazaar set up at different points of the city, price control magistrates remained available round the clock to keep an eye on the shopkeepers and to control over-pricing. According to an official of the district administration, the price control magistrates are not only controlling the prices they are also ensuring the quality and validity of the items being sold to the customers.
Prompt action is being taken on the complaints received at the complaint desks, he further said. Besides, the district administration has also taken into custody 92 professional beggars found begging at different market places and road side markets. They were arrested during the weeklong campaign against beggars, the spokesperson for the district administration further said. They have now been shifted to Adiala Jail, the spokesperson further said. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon has directed the magistrates to and the assistant commissioners and other officials in charge to expedite action against the shopkeepers and other traders who are either overcharging from the customers deviating from the DC rates or selling unhygienic and substandard things to the customers.
