SARGODHA – At least 14 people including women and children were killed in a truck accident in Sargodha due to dense smog.
Reports said 23 people were traveling in a mini-truck from the area of Galla Pur Bangla near Kot Momin in Sargodha when the vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a dry canal due to reduced visibility caused by the thick fog.
Seven individuals were killed instantly as the truck crashed. Rescue workers transferred the bodies and other severely injured individuals to the THQ hospital, where another seven victims later succumbed to their injuries.
The deceased included 6 children, 5 women, and 3 men, all of whom were on their way to attend a funeral.
Meanwhile, 181 traffic accidents were reported over a 24-hour period in Lahore, leaving 211 people injured.
Of these, 74 were critically injured and transferred to local hospitals, while 134 received first aid at the scene.
Rescue officials stated that the accidents occurred due to violations of traffic laws.
On the other hand, dense fog caused significant disruptions to both road and air travel across Punjab and neighboring areas, as cold and dry conditions continued to affect most of the country.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that continental air is currently prevailing over much of the region.
The fog is expected to persist at moderate to dense levels in Punjab, upper Sindh, and the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
