Intermittent rains with snowfalls over the hills are predicted in parts of Pakistan during the weekend.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a western disturbance will enter Balochistan on December 19. It will grip the upper parts on December 20.
Under the influence of this weather system, intermittent rains with snowfall over the hills are expected in the western and upper parts of Pakistan during the weekend.
Balochistan:
Intermittent rains with snowfalls over hills are expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Noushki, Harnai, Zhob, Musakhel, Turbat, Gawadar, Jiwani, Lasbella, Kech, Awaran, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Washuk, Chagi, Kharan and Kalat from December 19 (evening) to December 20.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:
Intermittent rains with moderate snowfalls in upper parts are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Bunner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bannu, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank and Kohat from December 20 (night) to December 22.
Kashmir/ Gilgit-Baltistan:
Intermittent rains with moderate to few heavy snowfalls are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Guanche, Shigar) and Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from December 20 (night) to December 23.
Punjab/Islamabad:
Intermittent rains are expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Potohar region, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Noorpurthal and Layyah from December 20 (evening) to December 21. Rains with snowfalls are likely in Murree and Galliyat. Cloudy weather conditions with drizzle are also expected in Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Multan, Jhang, Dera Ghazi Khan and Toba Tek Singh.
Sindh:
Partly cloudy to cloudy weather is expected in most parts of the province on December 19 and December 20.
Impacts:
Snowfall may cause road closures, slippery conditions in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, Galliyat, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch and Haveli.
There is a possibility of landslides/avalanches in hilly areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Tourists are advised to remain extra cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the period. Smog/fog is likely to continue in the central/southern parts of Punjab and upper Sindh.
