Fatima Fertilizer secures $60m IFC financing to support Pakistan’s food security

Fatima Fertilizer Secures 60m Ifc Financing To Support Pakistans Food Security

LAHORE — Fatima Fertilizer Company Limited and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, announced a renewable liquidity facility of up to US$60 million per year aimed at ensuring uninterrupted fertilizer production in Pakistan amid persistent foreign exchange constraints.

The facility will provide Fatima Fertilizer with access to hard-currency financing, enabling the import of essential raw materials, machinery, and technical services at a time when delays in import clearances and limited USD availability threaten domestic fertilizer supplies.

By allowing the company to operate at full capacity, the financing is expected to sustain approximately 1.46 million tons of annual fertilizer output and protect more than 850 direct jobs at Fatima Fertilizer’s Sadiqabad manufacturing complex. The initiative will also support thousands of small businesses across the fertilizer distribution network and help safeguard crop yields for staples such as wheat and rice.

“This partnership represents an important milestone not only for Fatima Fertilizer but also for Pakistan’s agriculture sector,” said Mr. Fawad Ahmed Mukhtar, CEO of Fatima Fertilizer. “Reliable access to liquidity strengthens our operational resilience, ensures timely delivery of essential nutrients to farmers, and contributes to a more food-secure future.”

IFC said the facility addresses a critical market gap by providing USD liquidity when traditional financing channels are constrained.

“Partnerships like this help unlock the liquidity needed to keep essential inputs flowing to Pakistan’s farmers,” said Ashruf Megahed, Regional Industry Head for Manufacturing, Agribusiness & Services at IFC. “By supporting vital imports, we aim to preserve jobs, stabilize food production, and strengthen the resilience of Pakistan’s agribusiness value chain.”

Beyond supporting domestic production, the facility is expected to help stabilize fertilizer prices, reduce reliance on imported fertilizers, and align with Pakistan’s broader agricultural and food security priorities.

Fatima Fertilizer is one of Pakistan’s leading fertilizer manufacturers and plays a key role in advancing agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods. The company is also the first private-sector entity in Pakistan to partner with UNDP under the UN Sustainable Development Goals Impact Framework Program.

IFC operates in over 100 countries and committed a record $71.7 billion in fiscal year 2025 to support sustainable development through private-sector solutions.
