ISLAMABAD – The federal government of Pakistan recently reduced the petrol levy by Rs80 per litre, bringing the price down to Rs378 per litre.
The decision, announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in a late-night address to the nation, has raised questions over the previously announced Rs100 per litre subsidy for motorcyclists.
The subsidy had been introduced when petrol prices were hiked to Rs458 per litre, effectively reducing the cost for motorcyclists.
If the subsidy is maintained, motorcyclists would pay Rs278 per litre.
As of now, the government has not officially clarified whether the subsidy will continue following the price reduction, leaving motorcyclists uncertain about the final cost at the petrol pumps.
How To Register for Petrol Subsidy via 9771 SMS
A day earlier, the government has unveiled the “Motorcycle Petrol Subsidy Relief Package 2026” for low- and middle-income citizens after it announced a massive hike in petroleum prices.
To save vulnerable people from the recent hike, the government had announced targeted subsidy. Under this scheme, eligible riders will receive up to Rs100 per liter discount on petrol, with 20 to 30 liters of subsidized fuel available per month.
This relief is expected to save individuals between Rs2,000 and Rs5,000 monthly.
Monthly income below Rs50,000–60,000
Motorcycle must be registered in applicant’s name with verified number plate
CNIC and mobile SIM must be registered under the same name
Applicants can register digitally by sending their CNIC and vehicle details to 9771 to receive a verification code.
The government will soon launch the “Fuel Subsidy App 2026,” enabling access to subsidized petrol at over 12,000 designated pumps via a QR code system.
