WhatsApp has announced a wide range of new features aimed at improving user communication, media sharing and AI-powered creativity across the platform.
A blog post by the Meta-owned messaging service unveiled that one of the key additions is a missed call messages feature, introduced as a modern alternative to traditional voicemail. The update will allow users to record a short voice or video note whenever a contact is unavailable to receive a call.
The company says the feature is intended to make staying connected easier and could eventually make conventional voicemail obsolete.
The platform is also rolling out new reaction options during voice chats, enabling users to respond without interrupting the conversation. WhatsApp has additionally upgraded its speaker functionality in voice calls to improve audio quality.
A major enhancement has been made to Meta AI within WhatsApp.
The company announced that its AI image-generation system has been upgraded with a new model designed to produce more refined and realistic visuals. Users will now also be able to animate images and convert them into short videos using written prompts.
On the desktop version, a new media tab is being introduced to help users easily locate documents, links, and media shared in chats. Link previews have also been refined for improved clarity.
The latest update brings new additions to WhatsApp Status as well, with users now able to add music lyrics, interactive stickers, and question prompts that allow contacts to respond directly.
WhatsApp said the features will be rolled out to users globally in phases.
