MUMBAI – The Indian Premier League (IPL) witnessed a major decline in its brand value following the withdrawal of several star players, the Indian media reported on Friday.
In 2025, the league’s overall brand value fell by 20 percent, dropping from $12 billion to $9.6 billion. The franchise value of Mumbai Indians decreased by 9 percent, and brought it down to $108 million.
Other major teams also witnessed declines compared to last year: Royal Challengers Bangalore’s brand value fell by 10 percent, Chennai Super Kings by 24 percent and Sunrisers Hyderabad by 34 percent. Rajasthan Royals experienced the largest drop, with a 35 percent decrease in brand value.
The decline comes after South African star Faf du Plessis, England’s Moeen Ali, and Australia’s Glenn Maxwell announced they will skip this year’s IPL. Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali are set to participate in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) instead.
The exit of these marquee players is being seen as a major factor affecting the league’s commercial appeal and overall valuation.
