KARACHI – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Thursday forecast a severe heatwave across the country, including Karachi, during the Eid holidays and the following week.
The PMD said that a high-pressure system is expected to develop over Pakistan starting June 7, likely resulting in a significant rise in temperatures. The system is expected to intensify and affect most parts of the country from June 8 onwards.
Between June 7 and 12, temperatures in Punjab are likely to remain 5 to 7°C above normal. Similarly, daytime temperatures in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are also expected to exceed normal levels by 5 to 7°C.
The department has also warned of the possibility of dusty winds and strong gusts in the plains due to the extreme heat.
In Karachi, the weather is expected to remain hot, humid, and partly cloudy during the three days of Eid. Daytime temperatures in the city are likely to range between 35°C and 37°C.
The Met Office further stated that sea breezes are expected to persist during the Eid holidays. However, strong winds may blow on the second day of Eid, with speeds likely to reach 35 to 40 kilometers per hour.
