On-Demand Evolution

Trends and fads come and go. This is the nature of life as we know it. Times, however, evolve and we develop traits which are more suitable with evolution, more importantly ourselves. Not to mention that these very trends are inculcated into our lives through not only ‘need’ but anther pivotal force at play. This being, trend-setting by the need of the generation of entrepreneurs themselves, who for their business promotion, for off-self-provision of their online services let the masses choose their services, which, in turn then, of course, once become a part of our lives staying with us for a reasonable time or even forever.

Life on demand, or better known as ‘online timely deliveries,’ emerged around two decades ago and has now become fully integrated into our lives. But whether these practices lead to a better, healthier life is another story, with multiple perspectives to consider.

I’m not here to criticize the practice because I myself prefer it when necessary. Many of us now live our entire lives online ‘on demand.’ Undoubtedly, this phenomenon makes life much easier. We can avoid getting stuck in traffic, focus more on our work (if we’re working and not just relaxing) and it promotes multitasking, allowing us to accomplish more while ‘on demand’ services handle their tasks. These are some of the significant advantages of this approach.

Social media

I am writing to bring attention to a pressing issue that revolves around the detrimental effects of social media on the lives of teenagers. In this modern era, social media undoubtedly holds a significant position in our lives, however, it is crucial to acknowledge the negative impacts it imposes, especially on impressionable adolescents.

The negative consequences of social media on teenagers’ lives are manifold, most notably their mental health, which can be significantly compromised due to their exposure to these platforms. Teenagers, driven by their impulsive nature, often fail to realize the potential risks associated with sharing intimate photos or divulging highly personal stories on social media. As a result, they become susceptible to various forms of abuse, ranging from cyber bullying to harassment and even blackmail. Regrettably, the damaging effects extend beyond their immediate safety concerns and privacy. Social media has been closely linked to an exponential rise in cases of anxiety and depression among teenagers. The constant pressure to maintain a certain image or conform to societal expectations, coupled with the resulting sense of inadequacy, can immensely contribute to the development of mental health issues.

In essence, it is crucial for us as a society to acknowledge and address the negative influence social media exerts on the lives of teenagers. Adequate measures should be implemented to educate and guide our youth on the responsible use of these platforms. Moreover, it is imperative to create a supportive environment that encourages open discussion about mental health. Only by doing so can we mitigate the adverse effects and foster a healthier and more productive future for our young generation.

Global debt crisis

The United States of America is the biggest debtor country in the world. Its national debt has exceeded $34 trillion. Owing burgeoning piles of debt has made the US economy and defence vulnerable. The boss of America’s biggest bank, CEO of JP Morgan, Jamie Dimon, says Washington faces a global ‘rebellion’ over the record US debt: ‘It is a cliff. We are going 60 mph towards it’.

The current US debt ratio is 120% of its GDP, and by 2035 it will exceed 130% of its GDP. Notably, most debt is held by US allies. The nations vividly exposed are Japan, which owned $1.1 trillion as of November 2023. China accounts for $782 billion, the UK $716 billion, Luxembourg $371 billion and Canada holds $321 billion. Moreover, foreign investors hold $7.6 trillion US debt.

President Joe Biden once said in his public session, “We are able to borrow because we are able to pay our debt.” But the aforementioned statement seems to be fragile. The US is the biggest defence spender in the world. In 2022, it spent over $800 billion on defence.

The unabated burgeoning debt has the biggest reason that is America’s direct or proxy wars. Through fiscal year 2022, the US federal government has invested and obligated $8 trillion on the post 9/11 wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere.

If the US defaults on its debt or offers weak excuses for repayment, it could lead to a severe economic collapse, undermining its military strength. Meanwhile, China and Russia, part of an anti-US bloc, aim to challenge global authority. This economic crisis may end the dollar’s dominance, ushering in a new global currency. A recession like the one in 2008 could follow.

Food crisis in Balochistan

The issue of food crisis in Balochistan is indeed deeply concerning and requires urgent attention.

The scarcity of food resources has brought about a critical situation that needs to be addressed promptly. Balochistan, being one of the four provinces in Pakistan, is greatly affected by this predicament, thus necessitating immediate action.

The reasons leading to the food crisis in Balochistan are multifaceted. Drought, lack of modern irrigation systems, poor agricultural practices and limited access to technology and agricultural resources are contributing factors. These challenges have significantly impacted the population’s ability to produce and obtain an adequate food supply.

The consequences of the food crisis are far-reaching. Malnutrition rates have surged, affecting vulnerable groups such as children and pregnant women. Moreover, the lack of nutritious food has led to weakened immune systems, making the population more susceptible to diseases and illnesses.

Addressing the food crisis in Balochistan requires a comprehensive approach. Efforts should be made to introduce sustainable agricultural practices, provide access to modern irrigation systems and promote educational programs to enhance farming techniques. Additionally, it is crucial to improve food distribution networks and establish cooperative farming initiatives to ensure fair and efficient resource allocation.
