Barter trade

Barter trade is essentially the trade of goods for goods in which no money is transacted. So adopt barter trade and exchange goods for goods and services to get rid of dollar-denominated trade for the country.

It’s a dilemma that Barter trade has not been extensively covered in traditional trade theory frameworks. This is relatively rare in modern economies, where financial transactions and specialized markets are the main means of trade. An official stated, it was being worked on for three years and now it has been finalized and legalized

Pakistan, Iran, Russia, and Afghanistan can exchange their products and services on a barter system basis. To meet the shortage of foreign exchange reserves in the country, it’s a remarkable step for the Pakistan government by which the foreign exchange deficit can be met to a great extent.

Opportunity missed!

For the eve of Eid-ul-Azha, the authorities of Karachi have moved the cattle market for sacrificial animals from Sohrab Goth to Northern Bypass this year. Every other day, since the establishment of the cattle market, we hear news of citizens getting robbed who are going to the market to purchase sacrificial animals.

Previously, we saw banks installing ATM machines near the cattle market for the convenience of buyers who can withdraw the money from the ATM installed instead of taking cash with them. Banking sector has grown up very fast recently and inclusion of branchless banking has made it very easy for people to make transactions to multiple banks and branchless banking partners like JazzCash, Easypaisa etc.

Why any of the bank or branchless banking operator didn’t do something for safer payments in the cattle market? Banks could have installed their POS machines at the cattle market and asked people to make transactions from their debit/credit card and eventually this amount could directly go into the account of the cattle owner.

Even Easypaisa & Jazzcash could ask the cattle owners to open an account with them which is a process of minutes and they are given a QR code which buyers can scan through their respective branchless banking app. This could’ve been a game changer. When POS machines can be installed at malls and QR codes can be placed at every shop of Dolmen City Mall, then why not apply this thing in the cattle market where thousands of rupees will be transacted.

Crops burning pollution

Now is the time, the farmers are again burning the crops residue like the previous year. It is the easiest and quickest way for farmers to clean their fields for the upcoming year.

But burning of crop residue is harmful to the soil and environment. It has 20pc of the contribution of polluted air. Likewise, most of the farmers are uneducated and lack awareness about the bad impact of burning crop residue.

It is suggested that farmers should be guided about the economic and commercial worth of crop residue. And biomass gasification is the best technology for saving the environment from pollution. Finally, the government must provide biomass gasification to farmers so that the country could be saved from bad effects of air pollution.

Kandhkot library

In conditions of delinquency, the city, Kandhkot, desperately needs to be educated. Illiteracy is increasing with each passing day. It is most regrettable that the city is faced with a shortage of library facilities. After constant struggle by students, the city got its first public library back in 2022. The irony is that the management of the library is highly corrupt and inefficient.

The administration of the library is mostly non-existent. Infrastructure maintenance is exceedingly poor. The chairs and tables are smashed. The irregular supply of electricity is the most important concern of students. The warmth of summer has interrupted the students’ study. As a result, students are puzzled, and their learning is in limbo.

In addition, according to confirmed reports, the authorities concerned have been allocated significant amounts to maintain the ambience of the library. However, corrupt agents waste and misuse money recklessly to carry out their endless desires.

Superior authorities are requested to keep an eye on those incompetent officials who are sitting in the library just to abuse public funds. Moreover, they have to be held responsible for the destruction of the library’s aroma, depriving students of their basic facilities.

Energy crisis

Pakistan has been facing a severe energy crisis, a shortfall of over 7,000 megawatts of electricity, which has led to widespread power outages. The crisis is having a negative impact on the economy and the lives of ordinary Pakistanis. Pakistan is a country having no sufficient power as its power is generated through thermal power plants which is another problem for getting fuel to generate electricity and it pollutes the environment. The power distribution network in Pakistan is poorly maintained. This has led to losses of up to 25% of electricity during transmission and distribution. Apart from this, the energy crisis has had a great impact on economic growth as most of the businesses are operated through electricity to produce their products or promote business but it is a menace that energy crisis has dragged Pakistan into crisis. The energy crisis has also led to health problems. People are spending more time in the dark which has led to an increase in respiratory problems. The lack of access to clean water has also led to an increase in waterborne diseases. The government should be taking such serious steps to ensure public demands.
