WASHINGTON – US Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, welcomed a baby boy on Sunday.
According to The Wall Street Journal, this is the first time in more than 150 years that the spouse of a sitting US vice president has given birth while her husband is serving in office.
The previous recorded instance was in 1870, when the wife of then-Vice President Schuyler Colfax gave birth during his term.
The couple already have three children: Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel.
In a joint statement, JD Vance and Usha Vance announced that they have named their newborn son Alec Neil Vance.
“We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning. Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother,” JD Vance said in a post.

“The incredible military doctors and staff members of Walter Reed Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit have been a blessing. We are deeply thankful for all they have done for our family.”
Vice President Vance said he does not plan to take formal parental leave. However, he intends to arrange his schedule so he can spend as much time as possible with his newborn son.
