WASHINGTON – The United States (US) on Friday said that Pakistan and India have a new window of opportunities to address the core issues that have long strained relations between both the countries.

The US took credit for playing a key role in reducing tensions and facilitating a ceasefire between both the countries, calling it a step toward resolving long-standing disputes between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

“This development [ ] has opened a new window of opportunity to address relations between the two countries,” said US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce.

The US involvement and support, she said, were instrumental in the recent de-escalation between the two South Asian rivals.

While acknowledging that the past efforts to resolve bilateral disputes have often failed, Bruce expressed optimism.

“There is now a new ray of hope. This is a golden opportunity for both nations to move forward towards lasting peace,” she said.

She further noted that both Pakistan and India appear serious and committed to maintaining the ceasefire, which she termed a “welcome development.”

The US remarks came days after Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also acknowledged Washington’s role in easing tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad.

The two countries have experienced periods of heightened tensions over the years, particularly over the Kashmir dispute. The recent developments are being seen by observers as a potential breakthrough, though challenges remain in achieving long-term peace.
