UO hosts PakTESOL Punjab regional training

Two-day 1st PakTESOL Punjab Regional Training on “21st Century Trends in English Language Teaching” was organized at the University of Okara. The activity was sponsored by Regional English Language Organization (RELO) of the US Embassy.

The inaugural ceremony of the event was presided over by the UO Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Muhammad Wajid. The other dignitaries included Dr Muhammad Kamal Khan, Founder and Project Director PakTESOL and Director Colleges Sahiwal Division, Masood Faridi. The Chair of the training was Dr Muhammad Ilyas Mahmood, Director Centre for English Language & Learning (CELL) at the UO.

In his welcome note, Dr Ilyas appreciated the generous support by RELO Pakistan and the efforts of PakTESOL for assuming the noble responsibility of capacity building of ELT (English Language Teaching) practitioners across the country. He also thanked the VC for his support in organizing the event.

“The ELT leadership of the host institution is striving to offer the country’s best ELT professional development services by establishing a model ELT Development Centre at the UO,” added Dr Ilyas.

The VC promised every support for PakTESOL and RELO in accomplishment of their mission to reform English language education in Pakistan.

Dr Kamal highlighted the support of RELO Pakistan and the roles of PakTESOL as a vibrant professional association of Pakistani English language teachers. Further, he applauded the arrangements, led by Dr Ilyas and the keen responsibility demonstrated by the offices of the Directorate of Public Instruction Punjab and the Directorate of Education Sahiwal for gathering the whole ELT faculty from all the higher education institutions of the region.
