ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s security forces killed gunned down at least a dozen militants linked with terror outfits in KP and Balochistan, ISPR said on Monday.

In a statement, military’s media wing said operations targeted terrorists linked to the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF), nefarious groups that are in contact with foreign intelligence agencies.

According to the ISPR, a major operation in KP’s Lakki Marwat district resulted in the killing of five “Indian-sponsored” militants. Two more were eliminated in a separate action in Bannu. In North Waziristan’s Mir Ali area, security forces repelled an ambush on a military convoy, killing two attackers.

Two soldiers were martyred during the firefight. They were identified as Sepoy Farhad Ali Turi, 29, from Kurram district, and Lance Naik Sabir Afridi, 32, from Kohat.

In Balochistan, security forces carried out successful operations in the Awaran and Kech districts. One militant, identified as Younas, was killed in the Gishkur area of Awaran, while two others were injured. Meanwhile, in Turbat city, two high-profile terrorists — Sabr Ullah and Amjad alias Bichoo — were neutralized in a gunfight. Weapons, ammunition, and explosives were recovered during the raids.

“Sanitisation operations are ongoing to clear remaining threats. These actions demonstrate our forces’ unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism in all its forms,” the ISPR stated. The military reiterated that these operations are part of a broader effort to counter foreign-sponsored attempts to destabilize the country.

President Asif Ali Zardari praised the operations, commending the armed forces for their bravery and stating that such actions are crucial to ensuring long-term peace and security. “We stand firm in our resolve to eliminate terrorism from our soil,” the president said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also lauded the security personnel, emphasizing the need to remain vigilant against what he called the “Indian agenda” of sowing chaos in Pakistan. “The conspiracy to endanger lives in Balochistan through terrorism has been exposed. We will defeat every malicious attempt to disturb the peace,” he asserted.

Earlier this month, seven soldiers were killed in an IED blast in Balochistan’s Kacchi district, an attack claimed by the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). Authorities linked the group to foreign intelligence agencies aiming to destabilize Pakistan’s western provinces.

The ISPR has repeatedly accused India of backing terrorist cells within Pakistan, with senior military officials presenting what they describe as “conclusive evidence” of Indian state involvement in violent insurgencies.

The spike in terrorist attacks follows the breakdown of a ceasefire between the TTP and the Pakistani government in late 2022. According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, March 2025 recorded over 100 militant incidents — the highest monthly total since 2014.
