ISLAMABAD – President Asif Ali Zardari has approved an ordinance related to the protection of the Islamabad Capital Territory Safe City Camera and Surveillance Infrastructure and compensation for any damage.
The objective of the ordinance is to safeguard the Safe City cameras and surveillance system from damage and to ensure compensation in the event of any damage.
Under the ordinance, a financial penalty may be imposed for damaging the Safe City cameras and surveillance infrastructure, or for inciting or encouraging such damage.
In the case of damage to Safe City cameras or surveillance infrastructure, a penalty of up to 2 million rupees per camera or infrastructure may be imposed.
In the event of damage occurring during rallies, processions, sit-ins, protests, strikes, or gatherings, the organizers may also be held responsible for the damage.
The determination of the fine and the cost of damage will be made by an authorized officer after providing an opportunity for a hearing.
The relevant person shall have the right to appeal against the determination of the fine or the cost of damage before the District and Sessions Judge, Islamabad, within 30 days.
In the event of non-payment of the imposed fine or damage amount, it may be recovered as arrears of land revenue.
The amount collected as fines and for damage will be spent on the repair and replacement of Safe City cameras and surveillance infrastructure.
