Donald Trump has claimed that the United States has full control over Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on Truth Social on Wednesday, he said that the US intends to retain its grip over the key waterway.
Trump termed the US naval blockade as a “wall of steel” and asserted that Iran was unable to challenge it. He made a similar claim a day earlier, telling reporters that the US currently controlled the waterway and that Iran did not.
Iran, however, says that it controls significant portions of Hormuz and has indicated plans to introduce a toll system.
The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial global shipping route, particularly for oil and other energy supplies originating from the Middle East. Disruptions have already affected international trade and raised concerns about the broader impact on the global economy.
The conflict has continued for over five months, with US and Israeli strikes targeting Iranian military facilities and senior officials. The US initially cited objectives including curbing Iran’s nuclear programme and seeking political change.
Iran has responded with missile attacks against US military positions, Israel and targets in Gulf states allied with the US. Its disruption of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has emerged as one of its most significant countermeasures.
