US President Donald Trump on Tuesday praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as a “terrific man” during his address to the United Nations General Assembly.
He once again claimed credit for ending the Pakistan-India military confrontation in May 2025.
Trump said he had helped settle eight conflicts since taking office, including the Pakistan-India dispute, and attributed his efforts to strong relations with foreign leaders and the use of tariffs.
Referring to PM Shehbaz, he said the Pakistani premier had credited him with saving “30 million lives and probably many more”.
Tensions between Pakistan and India escalated after an attack in occupied Kashmir in April 2025, which India blamed on Pakistan. Islamabad rejected the allegation. The two countries exchanged military strikes before agreeing to a ceasefire in May following Trump’s intervention.
Trump also warned Iran that he could “annihilate the Islamic Republic” if no peace deal was reached, while calling for international economic pressure on Tehran.
He further urged members of the International Criminal Court to withdraw from what he called a “rogue institution”, saying Washington would not accept ICC investigations into US personnel.
