KARACHI – Investigations are under way into the mysterious deaths of three women whose bodies were recovered from a flat in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, as police say the cause of death has yet to be determined.
The officials said that the incident was reported by the head of the household, Muhammad Iqbal, who initially claimed that the women had died due to a gas leak.
However, a post-mortem examination indicated discrepancies, revealing that one of the bodies was already two days old when police arrived—contradicting the family’s initial account.
Police stated that a young man, identified as Yaseen, was also found in a semi-conscious state inside the flat and was shifted to a hospital. During questioning, his statements appeared inconsistent, leading investigators to detain both Yaseen and his father for further inquiry.
A police surgeon described the case as “highly complex,” stating that suspicious substances were detected in the blood samples of the deceased women as well as the semi-conscious youth. Police earlier reported that Yaseen had consumed sleeping pills mixed in juice, which deteriorated his condition.
Investigators also revealed that the family was burdened with debts exceeding Rs15 million. Both their residence and vehicle were rented, and Yaseen was said to be employed in the property business. Police recovered a letter from Iqbal, which has been sent for forensic analysis.
The officials added that preliminary findings suggested Muhammad Iqbal was allegedly involved in black-magic practices, though police emphasised that all angles of the case are being examined.
Police said that the exact cause of death would be established after the complete post-mortem report is received. It has been confirmed that one of the three bodies was at least two days old at the time of recovery.
Three days earlier, the bodies of a mother, daughter, and daughter-in-law were found inside the flat after Iqbal phoned the police helpline.
Investigators declared the circumstances suspicious from the outset, and the probe remains ongoing.
