ABU DHABI – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has intensified enforcement of its immigration laws to protect its labor market, implementing a zero-tolerance policy against violations.
The UAE government has declared that any breach of residency laws or visit visas is considered a crime against national security.
Reports said individuals found sheltering illegal residents could face a fine of up to 5 million dirhams (approximately 38 crore Pakistani rupees).
Those providing employment or housing to illegal residents may also face both heavy fines and imprisonment.
Fine on Visit Visa Violation
Working on a visit visa has now been classified as a crime, with fines exceeding 10,000 dirhams (about Rs760,000 Pakistani rupees).
Individuals found using fake residency documents could face up to 10 years in prison.
Pakistanis in UAE
The UAE continues to be a major destination for millions of Pakistanis in search of employment and new opportunities, with both countries enjoying a strong strategic alliance. Approximately 1.5 to 1.7 million Pakistanis reside in the UAE, representing about 12-13% of the total population.
These workers play a vital role in the UAE’s labor market, particularly in mid-level skilled positions, and contribute significantly to the Pakistani economy by sending substantial remittances back home.
They are actively engaged in sectors such as construction, hospitality, healthcare, and other professional fields.
