ISLAMABAD – Federal Investigation Agency’s Islamabad Zone launched internal accountability drive, handing down departmental penalties in 76 cases, including the dismissal of 10 employees and demotion of eight others.
The action was taken during an Orderly Room chaired by the Director FIA Islamabad Zone, where cases involving alleged irregularities, disciplinary violations, irresponsible conduct, unprofessional behaviour and public complaints were examined.
Federal Investigators said the employees facing proceedings were given an opportunity to present their positions before the decisions were taken. The available records and relevant material were subsequently reviewed before penalties were imposed.
According to the agency, 10 employees were removed from service following the proceedings. Those dismissed include Sub-Inspector Hassan Ali, Upper Division Clerk Muhammad Subhan, Head Constables Tahir Mahmood, Melvin Masih and Muhammad Bilal, Constables Tahir Safeer, Muhammad Ahmad Raza, Aqib Mahmood and Tahir Mahmood, and ASI Mubashir Kazmi.
FIA also demoted eight employees. Two Assistant Sub-Inspectors were reduced to the rank of Head Constable, one Upper Division Clerk was demoted to Lower Division Clerk, while five Head Constables were reduced to the rank of Constable.
The accountability action did not stop at dismissals and demotions. FIA said 58 additional employees were handed other departmental penalties. Promotion was withheld for three years in 19 cases, while 27 employees were denied promotion for two years. In another five cases, promotion was withheld for one year.
One employee was also reduced by three stages in the pay scale, while six employees received censure. The proceedings were conducted under the Civil Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 2020, which provide for penalties ranging from censure and withholding of promotion to reduction in rank or pay, removal and dismissal from service.
Amid the disciplinary crackdown, the FIA Islamabad Zone also recognised employees for strong performance. The agency awarded Commendation Certificate Class-II (CC-II) to three officers in recognition of their performance. Director FIA Islamabad Zone said violations involving discipline, corruption, misuse of authority and irresponsible or unprofessional conduct would not be tolerated.
He said the department would continue recognising employees who demonstrate good performance while taking action against those found violating standards of discipline, integrity and professional responsibility.
FIA said the disciplinary decisions were taken after giving the concerned employees an opportunity to defend themselves and after examining the available record. The Civil Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 2020 came into force in December 2020 and govern disciplinary proceedings against civil servants.
