Suzuki Alto, Cultus, Swift Expected Prices after Budget 2026–27 with 3% Climate Support Levy

Pakistan’s upcoming Budget 2026–27 continues to remain in news and early discussions hint at new taxation measures on automobiles. These proposals have raised concerns across the auto market, particularly amid already rising inflation and increasing vehicle prices.

One of the key proposals under consideration is a hike in the Climate Support Levy on petrol-powered vehicles. Reports suggest that the levy on petrol cars up to 1300cc may be increased from 1% to 3%. If approved, this adjustment is expected to directly raise ex-factory prices across the small car segment.

The move is part of a broader policy direction aimed at discouraging fossil fuel dependence and promoting a gradual shift toward hybrid and electric vehicles. However, the immediate impact is expected to be a further reduction in affordability for entry-level buyers.

Although the proposed increase appears modest in percentage terms, analysts note that even small price hikes have a significant impact in Pakistan’s budget car market. Many buyers rely on installment plans, financing schemes, and long booking cycles, making affordability highly sensitive to even minor cost changes.

If implemented, the new taxation structure could make entry-level vehicles such as the Suzuki Alto even less accessible for first-time buyers. This would further strain middle- and lower-income households already struggling with high living costs.
