KARACHI – The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) on Tuesday predicted that the Muharram-ul-Haram moon is likely to be sighted on the evening of June 26, 2025.
The SUPARCO spokesperson said that the new moon is expected to be born on June 25, 2025, at 3:32 PM Pakistan Standard Time.
On June 26, he said, at the time of sunset, the moon would be approximately 28 hours and 15 minutes old, making it easily visible in most parts of the country under clear weather conditions. The spokesperson further noted that in coastal areas of Pakistan, the time gap between sunset and moonset will be around 75 minutes — a duration considered highly favorable for crescent sighting.
If the moon is sighted on June 26, the first day of Muharram 1447 Hijri will fall on Friday, June 27, 2025.
It may be mentioned here that the police and other law enforcement agencies have made strict security arrangements for Muharram, and especially of Ashura across the country. The mobile services are likely to remain suspended on the processions routes, gatherings and Imambargahs.
