ISLAMABAD – Ashura 2025 is expected on July 6, 2025 Sunday as Muslims are waiting for the start of the New Islamic year.

As Muslims are excited to welcome New Islamic Year 1447, the first month of the Islamic year is observed with deep respect. Ashura commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain R.A, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad PBUH.

Islamic New Year is expected to start on June 27 Friday as astronomical conditions hint that Muharram moon is likely to be sighted on June 26 Thursday. The birth of the new moon will occur at 3:31 PM on June 25 but due to limited visibility after sunset, it is unlikely to be seen in Pakistan.

Based on these projections, the first day of Muharram in most countries, including Pakistan, is expected to fall on Friday, June 27.

Pakistan’s top moon sighting body Ruet-e-Hilal is expected to convene on evening of June 26 to collect moon sighting testimonies from across Pakistan and make an official announcement regarding the start of the new Islamic year.
