An enthusiastic rally of students took place from Fawara Chowk to Press Club Karachi against the KSP policy. The rally was organized by Sindhi Shagird Tahreek (SST). The KSP policy is deemed a violation of the country’s constitution, declared as the murder of merit. Demonstrators demand to end of the KSP policy for admission to the University of Karachi. A large number of students participated in the rally, holding placards to articulate their demands.
The rally was led by Atif Mallah, Central President of Sindhi Shagird Tahreek, along with Ghulam Ali Zaor, General Secretary of SST, Kabir Bheel, Naveed Abbas Kalhoro, Nowroz Kalmati, and others. Atif Mallah, Central President of SST, described that the University of Karachi has introduced a KSP (Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan) policy for admissions, which is unfair to eligible students of Sindh. The KSP policy’s admissions are based on geography instead of merit and aptitude. Sindhis are being expelled from their city by the KSP policy, he said.
He added that the KSP policy is a violation of Article 25 of the Constitution of 1973, which grants equal rights to all citizens of the country without any discrimination. The KSP policy is also against the policy of the Higher Education Commission, the body responsible for promoting higher education on an equal basis to all citizens.
He further added that The KSP policy at the School of Law, University of Karachi, is the outcome of a deal between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) conducted last year.
The PPP is involved in every project deemed detrimental to Sindh. We plan to extend our protests throughout Sindh and expose the complicity of the PPP. Demonstrators demanded the immediate abolition of the KSP policy for admissions to the University of Karachi, advocating for preferential admissions to Sindhi students. They also called for the provision of all basic facilities, including hostels and point buses, to students in the educational institutions of Karachi.
