The Standing Committee on Maritime Affairs was given briefing on the working of PNSC by its officials at PNSC Karachi. PNSC informed that after agreement with PSO, their total profitability increased which helped in accumulating enough funds to buy new vessels in later years.
Further, PNSC informed that it undertakes regular CSR activities on which the Committee recommended to devise a systematic plan for carrying out CSR activities in the form of various vocational and technical trainings. Later, PNSC apprised the Committee of its aging vessels since most of them have crossed 15-20 years. On this, the Committee suggested PNSC to buy new vessels upon which the officials of PNSC said that they have sufficient funds available and just wanted the approval of government in order to increase its vessels.
The positive sign is that PNSC said there is ample space for both private and public sector to work on import and export transportation in the country through sea as PNSC is only catering to very minimum cargo and is looking to cover energy sector mainly in order to significantly boost its revenues.
The Committee acknowledged the efforts of PNSC in working towards sustainable profits and investing and looking for new opportunities to increase its overall freight of vessels which will add towards National exchequer.
