Sindh government has announced the development of the province’s first-ever Transgender Education Policy. This progressive step aims to provide equal educational opportunities for transgender individuals and enhance their social integration.
Sukhdev Assardas Hemnani, the spokesperson for the Sindh government, shared that Sindh is leading the way by addressing the education needs of the transgender community, setting a national precedent.
He highlighted that Sindh is the only province in Pakistan actively working to formulate such a policy, underscoring the government’s commitment to ensuring fundamental rights for the transgender community. The spokesperson also reminded that, in addition to this educational policy, the Sindh government had earlier implemented a job quota for transgender persons through the Sindh Civil Servants Amendment Act.
This initiative not only guarantees employment opportunities based on merit but also reserves positions for the community. Furthermore, the Sindh government has allocated a quota for transgender individuals in the local government system, marking a significant step towards their inclusion in public service.
By introducing these measures, the Sindh government aims to improve the socio-economic status of the transgender community, fostering a more inclusive and aware society. Hemnani emphasized that these policies are designed not only to empower transgender individuals through education but also to promote equality and awareness across all sectors of society.
