Sindh govt, INL collaborate to strengthen anti-drug efforts

A delegation from the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) met with Sindh’s Senior Minister, SharjeelInamMemon, at the Directorate General of Excise and Narcotics Control office to discuss mutual interests and strategies against drug trafficking. The INL delegation included Director Lori Antolins, Counter Narcotics Advisor Mark Kennedy, DEA Attaché Thomas Marshall, ARSO Josh McCue, and Program Specialist Raja Sharjeel Hassan.

Sindh representatives included Secretary Excise Saleem Rajput, DG Excise Aurangzeb Panhwar, and Director Narcotics Control Riaz Hassan Khosa. During the meeting, Minister Memon briefed the INL team on the initiatives taken by the Excise and Narcotics Control Department. The INL officials praised Sindh’s efforts, with Director Antolins and DEA Attaché Marshall expressing readiness to support the province’s anti-drug initiatives.

Minister Memon emphasized the collaborative mission against drug trafficking, noting Sindh’s leadership in cracking down on drug dealers. He highlighted ongoing crackdowns conducted with the cooperation of Excise, Narcotics Control, and the police, and discussed efforts to amend laws for more effective action. “Our mission is to keep educational institutions drug-free,” Memon stated, acknowledging the diligent work of police, Excise Narcotics Control, and the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF). He mentioned the operational rehabilitation centers and plans to establish more to help reintegrate addicts into society. The challenge posed by drugs like ice and crystal heroin was particularly noted. Memon underscored the priority to eradicate drugs and the intensifying efforts and operations being carried out.

The INL delegation appreciated the establishment of the Excise Department’s Rapid Response Unit (RRU) and assured continued support in anti-drug initiatives. The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of strengthening cooperation and joint efforts in drug control. Senior Minister SharjeelInamMemon presented traditional Sindhi Ajrak to the distinguished guests as a token of appreciation.
