SHC allows 150 ‘extra’ students of SM Law College to sit in exams

Sindh High Court (SHC) here Thursday allowed theextra 150 students of the SM Law College Karachi to sit in the exam anddirected the Karachi University to do the needful.These students were admitted by the SM Law College but the KarachiUniversity had refused to accept their enrollments and allow them totake their annual examination.When these students approached the Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor, he instructed advocate KhurramLakhani to file apetition of the affected students of Sindh Muslim Law College Karachi.

During the last hearing on Wednesday the SHC had expressed displeasureover the attitude of Karachi University over its attitude towards thematters related to its affiliated colleges.Principal SM Law College and the lawyer of Karachi University hadpresented their stance before the court, comprising acting chief justiceAqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Abdul MubeenLakho.

The principal referred to a letter from the Pakistan Bar Council statingthat he gave admission to 150 students, but the Karachi University isonly allowing 100 students to appear in the examination. The lawyer of Karachi University had sought time from the court forpreparation, saying they do not accept the claim of the law collegeabout admission of extra 50 students.

The honorable court expressing displeasure had said that this is thematter of the future of students. The Karachi University has orphanedthe colleges. It said uphold of law is necessary.

The issues should berestored as per law.The PDP lawyer KhurramLakhani told the court that the students havealready paid admission; enrollment and examination fees and they areattending classes since 2022. He said the university and the law collegeshould settle their differences but the future of the students shouldnot be affected.
