NEW DEHLI – Former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passed away on Friday.
He was 92.
The Indian media reported that Economist Manmohan Singh served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014.
The reports said that senior Congress leader Manmohan Singh was admitted to a hospital in New Delhi after his health deteriorated. His condition had been critical for the past few days.
Manmohan Singh, India’s first Sikh Prime Minister, was born in 1932 in a village in Chakwal district, Pakistan, where he studied up to the fourth grade.
After creation of Pakistan, his family migrated to India, where he pursued higher education. He earned degrees in economics from the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge in the UK.
After completing an MA in Economics, he also obtained a D.Litt and was awarded honorary doctorates by several universities.
Manmohan Singh served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, representing the Congress party. His economic policies are credited with contributing significantly to India’s economic growth.
