Ousted prime minister and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, reacting to the arrest of Shahbaz Sharif on Monday, said that the “puppet regime” has ratified the All Parties Conference (APC) resolution by arresting his brother.
“Shahbaz Sharif had said that whether he is in prison or out, all the decisions made in the APC would be implemented,” he wrote on his official Twitter handle. “Make no mistake, we can never be bowed down by such strong-arm tactics,” he added.
Meanwhile, hours after PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif was arrested by NAB from the Lahore High Court premises, Maryam Nawaz lambasted the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan and his “sponsors”. “No amount of strong-arm tactics can stop me from raising my voice for what is right,” she said while addressing a news conference flanked by other party leaders including Ahsan Iqbal and Rana Sanullah.
Maryam said the party president was arrested not because of any crime but because he stood by his brother — ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif. Nawaz and Shahbaz stand united and those who wish to create differences between them would get disappointed, she remarked. The PML-N vice president said that if there
was any rule of law in the country then one of the PM’s aides involved in alleged embezzlement would get arrested instead of Shahbaz Sharif.
“Shahbaz Sharif will never leave his brother Nawaz Sharif alone. Both are one… he is being punished for being loyal with his brother,” PML-N leader added. She said that apart from politicians, judges were also under pressure to give the “selected”
favourable judgements. However, there were a few who were taking a stand for justice.
Maryam Nawaz said today was a “very sad day” because the opposition leader had been arrested again. “I don’t have a grain of doubt that Shahbaz Sharif was not arrested for corruption or accountability. A reference against him was ongoing and he
was arrested in the middle,” she said.
His wife and children were made absconders, [his son] Hamza is in jail and has corona.
Maryam Nawaz in atweet said, “Shahbaz Sharif preferred standing behind prison bars than to stand against his brother.” She said, “Shahbaz Sharif, aap ko SALAM.”
Addressing news men she said, “Despite this, he stands with his brother unwaveringly,” she said, adding that Shahbaz had last week made it clear that even if he was arrested, the speech made by PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif at the opposition’s Sept
20 multi-party conference and the MPC statement and action plan would be followed “100 per cent”.
Referring to a recent controversy generated by a news report regarding the offshore business assets of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s aide Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa’s family, Maryam said: “If there is even a semblance of law and justice [in the country],
then instead of Shahbaz Sharif, Asim Bajwa should have been arrested.”
