Scientific methodology must be applied to crop science. This was said by Federal Secretary National Food Security and Research, Omar Hamid Khan on Friday while meeting a delegation of Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission. Federal Secretary added that Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission can help in increasing crop yield.
He was of the point of view that we want to establish positive linkage between NFSR and Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission. Even Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission can help been generating authentic data for locusts. The organization can help in geo spatial agricultural monitoring and damage assessment of crops.
Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission utilize satellite imagery along with ground info to contribute in effective and efficient decision support in Agriculture. It also uses Crop Yield Forecasting System which results in timely, accurate and reliable crops estimates.
Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission also generates data on Crops Masks resulting in synoptic measure for crop insurance. With the availability of large multi-sensor, temporal Satellite datasets and advent of computational capacity, machine learning/Deep learning techniques have scope for rapid crop assessment.
Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission wants to start the Geo-Spatial Monitoring of Major and High Value Crops project with NFSR. The outcome of the project will be generation of Crop statistics for crop area, yield and production and making of monthly crop bulletin and seasonal reports of major crops .
