LONDON – The International Cricket Council (ICC) has inducted former Pakistan women’s team captain Sana Mir into its Hall of Fame for 2025, making her the first Pakistani woman and the eighth cricketer from the country to receive this honour.
The announcement was made by West Indian cricket legend Ian Bishop at a special ceremony held in London ahead of the ICC World Test Championship final.
Sana Mir joins six other cricketing greats in this year’s Hall of Fame inductees, including Australia’s Matthew Hayden, South Africa’s Hashim Amla and Graeme Smith, India’s MS Dhoni, New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori, and England’s Sarah Taylor.
Speaking on the occasion, Sana Mir described the honour as an emotional milestone in her career. “It has been a long journey from playing cricket on the streets of Pakistan to reaching the ICC Hall of Fame. This recognition is deeply meaningful,” she said.
Reflecting on the early days of her career, she added, “There was a time when Pakistan didn’t even have a complete women’s team, and we had no role models in the sport. Today, we have a growing number of female cricketers who are an inspiration for many,”.
Sana Mir made her ODI debut in December 2005 against Sri Lanka in Karachi and played her last international match in November 2019 against Bangladesh in Lahore.
Over the course of her career, she represented Pakistan in 226 international matches and captained the national side in 137 of them between 2009 and 2017.
She took 151 wickets and scored 1,630 runs across 120 ODI matches.
Sana Mir, after this development, has joined the ranks of Pakistan’s cricketing legends in the Hall of Fame including Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Javed Miandad, Abdul Qadir, Zaheer Abbas, Waqar Younis and Hanif Mohammad.
